AROUND - Supporting Location Based Internet Services / Suporte a Serviços Internet de Âmbito Local

Objectives

The focus of the proposed research is to model and implement an architecture for the support of location-based Internet services. To achieve a comprehensive solution to this problem we antecipate the need to address two main issues. The first issue is building a service discovery mechanisn that includes location requirements and the capability to work across multiple administrative domains. The other issue is creating a scope model for location-based services. The model should include the necessary abstractions to provide a mapping between location-based scopes and network topology. For evaluation, we will develop a series of prototype location-based services and applications and a supporting network infrastructure. Our main application will be a Bus Information System for the town of Guimarães.

This project started in June 1999 and was closed in October 2001.
